I ran my car 3 qts low on oil. Engine started making diesel-like noise @ idle. Added oil, noise did not go away. Changed oil, added 20-50w,still sounds like a diesel @ idle. Noise sounds like it's coming from inside valve cover. when I raise engine rpm to 1500, noise goes away. No loss of power, no overheating. No noise at all when engine is cold. Removed valve cover, nothing looks burned, loose, scratched. removed 3 cam caps....they looked ok. Could it be the oil pump? If so how hard is it to replace? The longer it idles [5 min] it gets a little louder and as soon as you rev it up, nose completely goes away. Thank you for your help!!!
