Shakes or Wobbles problem
1998 Nissan Altima Front Wheel Drive Automatic 107000 miles

My car (1998 Nissan Altima - 107000 miles) has recently developed a problem where it stalls (rpm goes down, engine shakes and then stalls) if I put the car in drive or reverse when engine has not be running on idle for quite some time (approx. 10 mins). If I leave it running for 10 minutes or so, then it does pick in drive/reverse. Also, I've seen a noticeable decrease in power since this problem started.

I got a transmission flush and intake manifold gasket replacement done to cure the problem, but it still persists.

Any suggestions on what might be the problem?

I sounds like you are having a simple issue with base idle. Has the base idle ever been inspected? If not the first step should be a simple base idle adjustment. To do this you simply unplug the throttle position sensor and turn the idle screw on the idle control valve counterclockwise until you achieve a idle of 800 rpm. The idle control valve is located on the lower intake manifold and is viewed best with a flashlight shined straight down in between the #1 and #2 intake runners. You will see a dime sized screw head that can be turned. Before doing any other unnecessary repairs make sure the basics are good like I have described.
