1994 Nissan Altima timming chain

i wanted to know wat to do if someone is sell a 94 nissan for 650 and only says that the timming chain is put in worng and it is driveable. if so what els should i like the engine how do i check if it is good and the tranny how do i see if it is working besides if i drive it..
