I own a Mitsubishi Diamante V6 GDI 3lt 1998 Fairway Selection, which is not running well. The engine rev's up to 4000 rpm and then starts spluttering and also cuts out. I have had the local Mitsubishi agents (Quest Motors - Harare, Zimbabwe) look at my vehicle but they cannot rectify the problem (its a grey import from Japan). We have cleaned the fuel tank, replaced the fuel filter, checked all fuses and checked all sensors with out success. We dont have anyone in Zimbabwe who has the Computer Diagnostics software for that model (the agents do have for the Mitsubishi Galant) - Please help or advise what I can do.

POSSIBLE CAUSES COULD BE A RUPTURED FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, OR A BAD MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR CHECK THE REGULATOR BY STARTING THE CAR AND PULLING OFF THE VACCUMN LINE TO THE REGULATOR IF YOU SEE FUEL COMING OUT OR WETNESS FROM FUEL REPLACE IT. MASS AIR FLOW SENSORS DON'T USUALLY GO BAD, THE GET CONTAMINATED BY DEBRIS AND DIRTY, PULL OFF THE AIR CLEANER HOUSING AND DISCONNECT THE MASS AIR FLOW FROM THE HOUSING IN SIDE YOU WILL SEE A TINY RESISTOR ON A PIECE OF ALUMINUM CHECK TO SEE IN THERE IS CARBON ON IT OR A PIECE OF DEBRIS LOGED IN IT IF NOT TAKE A CAN OF CARB CLEANER AND SPRAY IT OFF HEAVILY (MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL IS NOT CONNECTED - THIS WILL CAUSE IT TO BLOW OUT) BLOW IT OFF WITH ALOT OF AIR THEN REASSEMBLE THE AIR CLEANER. ALSO LOOK FOR POSSIBLE VACUMN LEAKS AROUNG THE INTAKE MANIFOLD.A HEAVY VACCUMN LEAK CAN CAUSE ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS.

I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT
