Hello. First I want to thank you guys for this page, your awesome! I have always preferred to drive a honda but recently had to replace my long time homda for something I could afford and found an awesome 1998 Montero sport that is is amazing shape but was wondering if they are like Honda's in that they need to have the timing belt replaced at a certain mileage to avoid very costly repairs. Also, I was curious if there are any issues with the 1998 Montero sport that are known issues that I should be aware of. thanks again for helping out those of us who are less mechanically inclined!

yes the timing belt should be replaced every 60,000 miles and there are only 4 recalls on the vehicle, 2 involving the crankshaft pulley bolt, 1 for the front brake lines and 1 for the third-seat latch and striker assembly.
