Car died while driving and wouldn't crank. Local mechanic hooked it up to computer diagnostic tester and said it wouldn't read it, like the computer was totally dead. Absolutely no read out from the car's computer. What could this be and what part(s) should I try to get or what kind of mechanic should I look for? Or is it best to go to dealer?

Hi Debra Baudoin,

Thank you for the donation.

If the engine would not crank, it is possible the power supply is disrupted and tyhis would result in the scanner's inability to communicate with the PCM.

The other possible reason for the scanner not communicating with the PCM would be incompatability of the scanner.

If your local mechanic is not able to perform any diagnostic scans, then it would be best to get it to the dealer as they would have the appropriate equuipment to perform diagnostics.
