Engine Cooling problem
1999 Mitsubishi Galant 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 99 galant 4 cyl that has a faulty temp guage.I put in a new temp sending unit, and it did not help. The temp guage buries in the red as soon as I turn the key. (Motor is cold) Also, I have put two new thermostats in, and they just wont open up. The lower hose stays cold, and the coolant will not circulate. I have not removed the water pump to inspect it, because it does not leak or make noise indicating any problem. PLEASE HELP !

First you need to check the wire from the temp switch to see if the wire is broke or touching ground anywhere. Also if you can get an inexpensive infered thermometer so we can see what the thing is really doing then I can better help you. I don't think the thermostat is the problem I think it may be a water pump or your radiator it partly pluged. As for the lower hose it should be about 30 degrees cooler then the upper hose if so then the water is circulating and the radiator is cooling as it should. Let me know what you find and we will go from there.
