Brakes problem
1999 Mercury Tracer Automatic

When I turn off the car the brake lights won't go off. Why is this happening?

Ok so what about the button underneath of the brake? When I press this white button in and play with it the lights go off but as soon as I let it go the lights turn right back on.

That is the brake light switch. When the button comes out the brake lights should come on. When the button is pushed in (by the brake pedal being in resting position, not being used) the lights will go out.
