1999 Mercury Sable 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have had this car approximately 1 year and have had to change the power steering pump 3 times and currently average changing the serpentine belt every 3-4 weeks due to it shredding the belt. Each pump installed "whines" loudly. I have changed 2 of the pulleys and now appears to have to have the following pulleys replaced due to what ever reason. The water pump pulley, the idler pulley, the tensioner pulley. This is costing me a fortune and I have been told everything from change the pulley to change the rack n pinion. PLEASE help me I beginning to think that I a 54 year old widow woman needs to go to school to learn mechanics!

First, I would take the vehicle to a different mechanic to have it checked. It seems they are guessing and never fixing the problem.

Additionally, I will tell you that the cheap aftermarket pumps mke a lot of noise. They sound like they are low on fluid. I would recommend getting an OEM pump.

As far as the Rack and Pinion, why are they saying to replace it? Have they justified their recommendations?

Let me know what they tell you or what you find.
