I was recently just given a 1995 Mercury Sable. It runs great, but the interior leaves a bit to be desired. The lining on the ceiling of the car is torn all over and if it is possible, I would like to replace it myself. I read online that you could remove the whole panel and recover it so I went to Autozone and purchased a roll of fabric. However, just looking at it, it seems like it might be hard to get it out and back in with the rubber that runs along the edge and various other parts that seem to be in the way. Do you think this is something I can replace on my own? If so, can you give me any pointers on how to get it out without causing damage to other parts of the interior?

No, that's not something you want to try. There is no way you can make it look normal. Headliners are very inexpensive and you can usually get a brand new one installed for under $100. That's the only way to go.
