Catalytic Converter for Mystique

I took my car to the repair shop because of an exaust noise. The mechanic told me it needed a catalytic converter. He said that this part was $1400. He said it was unusally high on this model and that for most cars it runs a couple hundred dollars. Does this sound right?

Thanks, Stephen

Sorry! My car is a 1999 Mercury Mystique. It is a 2.5 liter 6 cylinder and has 146,000 miles on it.

Thanks, Stephen

I guess it depends on the shop's mark up.
