Engine problem
1996 Mercury Mystique 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 161000 miles

I just got a new EGR Valve put in my car and the "check engine" light still comes on and my local mechanic told me that it might be my vaccum, because my car shuts off when i'm backing up sometimes and when i'm on a incline. Could it be my vacuum?

If the car has a stored code. Get it read, and post it here, if it's P0401 this is EGR flow insufficient. Can be a pluged port for the exhust gas to the intake throttle. Remove the EGR clean the port with a coathager, reassemble, reset the light, if it comes back on the EGR Position sensor is no good.
