1998 Mercury Marquis engine stalls

Car starts up ok but when you accellerate it idling it stalls. Starts right up, when shift to drive it also stalls. Does not seem to be missing, have to take off in neutral. Air filter and gas filter have been changed. Toke it to autozone and they told me it might be the agr valve

Sounds like the idle air control valve. I have replaced dozens of these on Grand Marquis. Seems like a common problem on these vehicles. Also, clean throttle body and plate.
