Noises problem
1995 Mercury Marquis V8 Automatic

My car sounds fine on the start up, however when accelerating the car makes a high pitched squealing sound and when taking off(such as from a stop light) I can hear something that sounds like metal grinding or dragging on the ground in the back. I have already checked for any parts that may be dragging the ground, the exhaust clamps were loose and I bought new ones, so that's fixed. I am not very mechanically inclined, so I have absolutely NO idea where to start from there.

TIs the noise coming from the engine area? Could it be from a belt? Is it worse with the AC on?

I just replaced the belt- or my brother did to be more technical. The sound is not worse with the a/c on and it does not sound like it's coming from the engine area, it more sounds like it's coming from under the back end, if that makes any sense.

If it is coming from the rear, chances are it is an axle bearing or pinion bearing. WIth the vehicle safely parked in neutral and the park brake on so it can't move, craw under it and see if there is any up and down play where the driveshaft goes into the differential.

Let me know what you find.
