Hello, I have a 1994 Mercury Cougar 149,000 miles, V6 engine. The car began overheating yesterday. ( The fan didn't appear to be running. We took it off and took it to the parts store. They tested it and said it was bad. We put a new fan on and still did not work. Called back to the parts store and they said it must be the relay switch. I called the Mercury dealership and they pulled up the part no and said it came back to a ignition control module. They said to make sure that was what was wrong because it could not be returned. How would I know if this was bad? Is there anything else to consider? The A/C hasn't been cold all summer, but we hadn't noticed it overheating prior to yesterday, the car is not drove very often).

Hi, I have a 1988 Mercury Cougar 5.0 L/302, Fuel Injected(MFI), AT, AC and 120,000 miles or so. Well I bought this car last year, private dealer, drove great for about 1-1 1/2 months then the problem started. It began over-heating, even right after I would fill radiator. Did not matter if I was on freeway or just around town driving. Well one day I was on the freeway and it started over-heating and the engine died.I was able to get off freeway and got some help, and they found a hole in a hose out of the radiator. The next day I had the hose replaced but this has not helped. Someone had thought maybe the heater core, so I had that replaced and nothing. They tryed it with and w/o the heater core and no difference. Before this problem would happen, my windows would fog up if defrost was on and even if I had the temp. Up in car, would turn cold. This problem isn't form long distance driving, it will happen driving even 5-10 miles sometimes less.I bought this car for the fact my other car runs and looks worse. If someone could help me please would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.
