Convertible top storage compartmen
2001 Mercedes Benz SL500 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 76500 miles
The storage compartment lid where the convertible top goes into in the down position will not open. The convertible top moves like usual but the lid will not open. Therefore, the top will not go down.

Start by going in the rear compartment and using a test light to check all fuses.My software (mitchell) doesnt really go into great depths on diagnosing and repairing these units.Looks like it a hydraulic system, so you will need to get access to the units to see if the pump for that cover is gettting power when it needs to .Also see if the relays in the rear power center can be swapped for a non-essential one (wipers or the such) to see if maybe it is just abad relay
