Glow Plugs

When I turn on my 1983 300 TDT (326000 miles), the glow plug timer light stays off. When I unplug the glow plug wiring harness, the light comes on. All the plugs seem to be registering a short when checked from the wiring plug on the timer. Where should I go from here?

Thanks

Mercedes benz 1987 100000 miles engine603.96 engine wouldnt start replaced glow plugs and high amperage draw blows 80 amp fuse. Tested harness for ground finding none individual plug amperage starts at 60 down to 35 in 9 secs double the mfg specs. Purcased new glow plug from m/b dealer and same test performance.

Keep looking, to blow an 80 amp fuse takes a dead short

Jack is absolutely correct, I had the same problem and it was one of my glow plugs, even though the glow plug was checking out as being good, it was internally shorted against itself, you will have to remove them, and checked them individually, so double check all your glow plugs.
