Air Conditioning problem

I bought a 1995 Mercedes E320 station wagon from a good friend of ours. I had the car for about 8 months now. Had some things done to pass inspection for my state. Everything works great. But recently my air condition stopped working all of a sudden and noticed that hot air is coming out of the vent when it's in the off position is that something I should be concerned about? What should I do?
