2003 Mercedes Benz E320 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 108K miles

My car has white smoke coming from the exhaust, intially when started and sometimes while driving, the smoke is think and has a scent of oil burning. What could this be?

This is an indication of the engine burning coolant in the combustion chamber. This is likely being caused by a blown head gasket. Check your oil for a milky color as this is a sign of coolant contamination. Also check your coolant for any signs of oil. If there are no signs of either then you are just starting to see the signs of a blown head gasket and these signs will become evident later as the problem gets worse. Now is the time to repair this as more problems can arise if this is let go too long.

From my experience having that means you have a bad oil. You may change it if you like.
