I figured out how to get the light off as well. My understanding from reading various blogs is that it won't kick in because either the refrigerant is low and there is not enough static pressure to get it to start or possibly the compressor is bad or it could be a faulty pressure sensor. The more I read the more confused I get.

The engine computer will lock out the compressor when low freon level is detected. It may be as simple as having the codes cleared. Most generic scanners cant do this so you might have to visit the dealer. Also coding in the acc module can be changed so this wont happen again. Good luck.
