1999 Mercedes Benz C320 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 95k miles

My 1999CLK is having problems with the transmission. Soetimes it stays in neutral and I have to turn off and on the ignition in order tomeke it run. Sometimes when downshisfted it does not upshift again and I have to stop and go to the same off on procedure. What could this be? thank, Jose , Puerto Rico

This sounds like you are having an issue with shift gate solenoid. This component is what transfers movement from the shift selector to the transmission. This is a component that will need to be coded to the vehicle so it will be necessary to go to a shop that is equiped with a MB STAR diagnostic computer.

Thanks for your reply. Is this is then the same reason why the transmission shifts hard sometimes?

This would more be for issues concerning the gear selection rather than shift quality. However if you are experiencing hard shifts with this it could be due to a clogged trans filter or poor pressure from the transmission valve body. Also a faulty valve body could also cause difficult gear selection.
