1997 Mercedes Benz C230 not shifting out of first

i took my car to get the check engine light read and it came up gear ratio incorrect and the other one was transmission control system electrical what is the problem and how do i fix and check it.

have you had any previous transmission or engine work done to this vehicle recently? it may have the wrong ECM to TCM matching if one or the other was recently replaced. if not then you should inspect wiring to the ECM and TCM, check for pressure loss in the valve body as well as for mechanical component failures, incorrect rear axle ratio, and the ATF oil filter to ensure its installed properly.
