After the car is started, and with your foot on the break, the gear shift remains locked. Using the manual release the shifter can be put in drive and will move however will in shift automatically

There is an adjustable cable under the dash attached to the brake pedal. If this cable becomes slack from use it will not release the shifter. Cable adjustment is at the pedal. Hope this helps and thank you for the donation.
