1976 Mercedes Benz 240d disconnect drive shaft from aft end

I am removing the transmission from my 240d and do not see how to get the forward end of the driveshaft to disconnect from the rear of the transmission. I have the three bolts on the spider there off, but still no seperation. Is there a splined shaft that connects the two? Do I need to completely remove the driveshaft?
