1994 Mercedes Benz 200e Two Wheel Drive Automatic 175000 miles
hello,
I just bought a car and its been lovely for the first two days and we love it but today whilst sitting at traffic lights it totaly cut out. We panic, Wobbled the gear stick a bit and turned the ignition key and it started up again straight away. I think it may be possible that the cause was that I hadn't put the stick into D properly and that it slipped into N and then just cut out... Is this a possible cause of the cut out or have I got a real problem on my hands?

The engine wont die from simply shifting gears. If the vehicle totally cut off, you may want to have the PCM scanned to see if it recorded any fault codes in the engine management system. Sometimes faulty Crankshaft Position Sensors can cause what you describe, but best to do a scan first to see.
