1994 Mercedes Benz 200e did my car just cut out for a reaso

1994 Mercedes Benz 200e Two Wheel Drive Automatic 175000 miles

hello,
I just bought a car and its been lovely for the first two days and we love it but today whilst sitting at traffic lights it totaly cut out. We panic, Wobbled the gear stick a bit and turned the ignition key and it started up again straight away. I think it may be possible that the cause was that I hadn't put the stick into D properly and that it slipped into N and then just cut out. Is this a possible cause of the cut out or have I got a real problem on my hands?
