Hello, I have a 1989 Mercedes-Benz 190e, it runs roughly when sitting at a stop light or when going under 30 miles per hour. On the interstate, it likes to cruise at 55-60 mph and doesn't like going over 65 mph. It seems to be using quite a bit of gas. I wonder what's up? Before this vehicle I had a 1993 190e that was better on gas and a lot faster, is it mainly age difference?

Engine running rough or misfiring can be cause by the following:

1. Defective spark plug
2. Inadequate spark/coil, defective spark plug wire.
3. Lack of compression
4. False air leakage.
5. Faulty fuel injectors.
6. Insufficient fuel pressure.
7. Contaminated fuel.
8. EGR valve that is leaking.
9. Oxygen sensors.
10. Throttle position sensor.
11. Idle air control valve.
