I just bought this 1986 Mazda B2000 2.0L 4cyl truck for my son for graduation. In the morning I start the engine. Starts fine. Give it a few minutes and kick down the choke. Idles great. City streets all gears and rpms, seems to run good. The problem is when I get on the freeway, higher speeds and higher rpms, the engine starts cutting out and getting that jerky feeling like it is going to die. When I take my foot off the gas the engine resumes as normal. I thought it might be the fuel filter and/or pump, so I am going to replace those. I am trying to eliminate all potential problems. Any other potential items this might be?

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires
