Engine Mechanical problem
1987 Mazda RX7 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

I have 87 mazda rx-7 that has been sitting up for about 2 years. Just thought I would try to get my old baby back on the road. When I first tried to crank it it would turn over but would not start. I pulled it down the street to kick start it and it would start but would not stay running. It would idle up and down. Now it will not even turn over. I replaced the ignition switch cause it seemed to have a shortage in it but that did not work. Now when you turn the switch on it takes some seconds before the dash will light up and buzzer sounds. All other lights come on and work fine has a new battery in it.

Have you changed your spark plugs?
Most of the time this is the cause and it sounds like you have a flooded engine.

Not since it has been sitting up for 2 years. I had changed them right before I stopped driving it. You have any idea what could cause it not to turn over when trying to start it. I changed the ignition switch but it still will not turn over.

Here's the simple way to deflood your engine: Pull the EGI fuse (in the under hood fuse pane) and crank for around 5-15 seconds. Put the fuse back in and it should start on the first try. Flooring the throttle does the same thing on all 89+ rotaries, but pulling the EGI fuse works on any rotary car. Should it still not want to start, put a teaspoon of Automatic Transmission Fluid in the Trailing plug holes (the top ones) to lubricate the apex seals. This usually will get the most stubbornly-flooded engine to start after it's been deflooded.
