Recently replaced my CV joints in my 4 cyl 5 speed Mazda, I have put about 350 miles on the new joints on top of the 107,000 it already has. I was driving to work pulled away from a stop sign making a right hand turn heard a snap/break car quit moving under power free rolling with car in gear. I took off the wheel everything looks good as far as CV joints go when I put the car in gear and let out clutch I can hear a clicking sound from where the shaft goes into the tranny. I am afraid that is the tranny, is there a way to tell without taking it all apart and how much does a new tranny cost? I only paid 1500 for the car 4 years ago so I dont think it is worth it???

Hi there,

It sounds like the differential/ final drive has gone to god. Any crunching sounds and no drive will more than likely equal a hefty repair bill. You will have to get a quote to supply and fit a transmission, but first get the drive shaft removed and make sure that the spline end has not sheared.
