1996 Mazda MX6 MX6 Shudders whilst accelerating

Engine Performance problem
1996 Mazda MX6 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 174000 miles

Hi There. My Mazda MX6 just started shuddering / shaking when accelerating from 1st gear. The RPMs drop and the more I push the accelerator, the more it shudders and the slower it goes. I can have the gas pushed all the way to the floor and the car wont go over 40 km/h. When ideling, the exhausts sounds like its blowing bubbles (put-puting).
