1988 Mazda MX6 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 181000 miles

i've been having problems with the charging system the alternator is putting out about 14 volts off the car but when in the car the battery only getting about 11 volts new alternator and new battery have a little battery/alternator tester with 6 lights 3 for off battery check and 3 for on charge check when the car is off i get 12.5 -13.5 (2-3 lights) when i turn car on same (2-3 lights) but if i remove negitive wire while running tester lights all the way up plus when driving and you turn the wheel the charge dummy light in the car dash comes on
