Hi! I just bought this car and it was idling at 2,000 rpm. We thought the throtle body just needed to be cleaned, and that helped because before when I wasn't pressing the gas peddle the car stalled because the throtlle was getting stuck. Now when the car is idling (whethere it is in park to drive) the rpm moves around like it is trying to find where it should be between 3,000 and 1,000 rpm and the car kind of shakes. We think that the car might have a vacuum issue going on. Do you have any ideas as to what could be causing this? Thanks!

We just had a problem, that sounds a lot like yours, with our '98 Protege. We just had to reset the Idle Speed adjustment in the ECU. It should give you specific instructions in your *repair* manual.

Between 1k and 3k sounds more like a vacuum leak. Look around real close, check the boot between the MAF and the engine for cracks and or breaks
