When I start my car it doesnt stay running unless I put my foot on the gas? I was told it could be the fuel pump if so roughly how time consuming would it be to fix?

Not your fuel pump. If it is your pump, it won't even run. You need to perform a fuel pressure test to make sure the pressure regulator is working.

You said you have to maintain the gas pedal. What rpm is that? If it is higher than 800 rpm, you have idle problem. Check for vacuum leaks, or possibly your idle air control valve. It may also be the throttle position sensor or the mass air flow sensor.
