Hi,

I recently got some great answers to my questions about the Mazda 626 1996 automatic transmission (thanks for that!), regarding a used Mazda I'm planning to buy, but Zackman did not clarify on something important:

1- if the car has done 100,000 miles, and the automatic transmission oil has never been changed, and the car has been driven easy, is it actually possible for the auto transmission to still be intact, undamaged and working properly?

2- How often should this Mazda model's ATF be changed, and what kind of ATF is the best for this car?

3- And if I check the transmission oil and it's a nice colour, would that mean that the transmission is still good despite the fact that the oil has never been changed?

Thanks very much!

Thank you for the reply to my question, but you replied only to question 2 - could you please reply to my questions 1 and 3? They are quick questions, and are given again below.

It doesn't matter whether the fluid looks pretty or stinky and its over 60,000 miles its needs replacement this is what the manufactures recommedations to include a filter change. This is how I service trannies by following the scheduled maintenance in the repair manual.
