I recently had the transmission oil in my wife's mazda 6 changed. She bought it when she was single at some car rental place. The oil in their was BLACK as night. Before I changed the oil the car was running fine. Afterward the car will not come out of third gear and the manual shift mode on the car does not work at all. I'm hoping it may just be the filter and the sensors are very dirty. Any Input?

Sometimes a service on an older trans that has never had it done can be the kiss of death. Did you disturb anything when replacing the filter?Sometimes they can stick and will free up after getting hot.

The only thing I did to the car was drain the transmission oil, and put new oil in. It seemed like it had never been serviced though. The oil was pitch black. Should I have someone do an actual flush where they take the filter out also?

Might not be a bad idea. They will clean out the pan as well. Look to be sure you didnt accidentally bump a connector under the hood too
