Good morning.

The 420 is a bad catalytic converter. The precious metals are worn out inside the converter. It needs to be replaced with a good quality converter.

The pedal sensor could be the pedal itself but the voltages to the pedal need to be checked to verify the failure whether it is the part of a wiring issue.

Okay, a muffler shop checked it out and there is nothing wrong with my catalytic converter. I have found a throttle assembly I need to know exactly what I need. Does the throttle assembly have the entire thing?

How did they check your converter? 420 is bad converter. A lot of shops do not know how to test it for the failure. It is all about the O2 readings on the upstream and downstream sensors.

No, the throttle body has the TPS part but the pedal in the car is the other sensor and it has the module attached to it.

So I need to purchase both parts for the throttle? The muffler shop checked it and said there is nothing wrong with converter. That if the car is running badly it can throw wrong codes. This loss of power has gone on for a month it being a standard transmission when it happens and the message comes on the screen. Warning engine malfunction service engine soon I turn off the key while continuing to drive and turn it back on. It usually clears up and drives fine. Went up steep grade last Saturday and it has not been same since. It starts but no power at all when you push down on throttle.

It is rare that both the throttle body and pedal sensor fail at the same time. It sounds like they are guessing.

You still need a catalytic converter. There is no doubt about that at all. You can believe what they say but as long as the code comes back you need a catalytic converter. It does not sound like the shop can diagnose well. They are guessing a lot especially with the throttle and pedal sensor.

I had a diagnostic done it was in my first message. My car is being towed to another mechanic tomorrow morning. I want to get the throttle problem fixed then have another diagnostic done to check the catalytic converter. I have a place that has the throttle assembly I just do not know if I need that part.

If they did the diagnostic correctly, they can tell you the exact failure. A code reading is not a diagnostic. It just tells you the system that has failed. The flow chart from the code determines the failed part or wiring issue.
