1994 Lincoln towncar 4.6, 120,000 miles

it overheats in bumper to bumper traffic, but is fine long as traffic is flowing. changed thermostat , but it still does it. does not lose any fluid, just heats up and rings the bell, and the temperature gauge goes up, when we start moving again it goes back down to normal.

thank you so much

If the car has an electric cooling fan. Make sure that it works. The fan should come on when the engine gets hot. Check fuses. There are 2 fuse boxes, one in/under the dash and one under the hood. It might even have a relay that could fail.
If that is OK, you might have a failed water pump.

feedback is important.
Good luck.
