1988 Lincoln Town Car Engine Doing its own thing

Car will run rough when not moveing in drive, like at a light and sometimes die, sometimes when I slightly accelerate from stop it dies. Then when diving with accelerator not on floor it cruizes at 40 MPH it should only go like 5-10. Idles horrible. I think it is electrical like computer or something.
