the heater core needs replacing but now the water in car is leaking out can the heater problem be causing this leak

If coolant is leaking into passenger compartment then heater core is leaking. Where is the leak?

The water is not leaking inside the car but from the engine somewhere water will not stay in radiator but car will start and can be driven but immediately will overheat could this be related to heater core or thermostat

More likely water pump or hose need to get this looked at now or run risk of severe and costly engine damage.
