Blue smoke

My 1995 Lexus LS400 with V8 has a very slight blue color to the tailpipe exhaust when started. My main concern is that I notice a slight buildup of a slightly greasy looking film on the inside of my windows that looks like somebody smokes in the car. Nobody does. No sign of oil leaks on the garage floor. Being a non-mechanical female I am fearful this may mean there is an exhaust leak coming into the car though I notice no odor. My husband is mechanical but is terminally ill with pancreatic cancer and unable to help me at all. I am financially distressed and can't afford a visit to the Lexus dealer unless I am about to be asphixiated. Any ideas?

Hi there,

As for blue smoke, that is a sign of oil consumption. That's not the end of the world, it may be that the wrong oil is in the engine or it is well over due for a service. The build up on the windows could be that you have the heater controls on outside air and the air being draw into the car has this very fine oily mist. First thing to do is to change the oil & filter and make sure that the correct oil is being used. Clean the windows determine if outside air is being used more than recirculated air.
