Smells problem
1998 Lexus GS 300 108000 miles

My car has been diagnosed with a leaking head gasket but had not exhibited any symptoms. Yesterday, during a short 5 mile trip there was a strong smell of smoke a block from my home. I haven't driven it today. Is this related to the head gasket? The coolant was full, but the oil was a qrt low and I had an oil change 200 miles ago. I'm trying to figure out if I have to get a new car, or if I have more time. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help!

You didn't say what engine you have, but the smell of smoke and the loss of oil could point to oil leaking at the head gasket.

Instead of buying a new car, why not just have that one fixed?
I've seen many Toyotas and Lexuses with 300,000 miles on them still in good condition. Other than the drivers seat starts to get worn out and the stitching is coming apart.
