I am considering buying a used 1996 Lexus ES 300 with about 147,000 miles on it. I intend to have an independent mechanic inspect the car or course, but I am wondering if there are some common problems with this vintage Lexus one should look for or any specific areas the warrant special attention. I am not a mechanic and don't really have a shop in mind to do this inspection, but it would be helpful to go into this process with a little homework done.

Thanks

Hi there,

There was only one recall on file for this car, that being for the re-torquing of the steering wheel lock nut, reading through the TSB's there is nothing that stands out as a potential problem, as long as all the basic items are ok and there is no indication of major collision damage, this will be evident to the mechanic doing the inspection, there should not be a problem.
