Where is the thermostat located on a 2000 Lexus es300. I followed the upper radiator hose and took apart what I thought was the housing but this wasn't it. I've found several different answers for several year models but not this one in particular. Also would a stuck thermostat cause my car not to go into overdrive? I'm getting a code for insufficient temp for closed loop and knock sensor codes but nothing for my transmission. Pleaaaase help

Yes, that can cause that code.Follow the lower hose to the engine, there you will find the t-stat housing. Here is a guide to help you step by step with diagrams below to show you on your car.

I think I see where it should be. Looks difficult to get to. What is the best plan for accessing it. Or am I in over my head. I'm not a mechanic obviously but would like to do this myself. Thanks in advance

I dont believe it is too difficult, just take your time and look at it for a minute before taking too much stuff apart.I cant find any pics or procedures for replacing it.

Possibly. If it wont go into closed loop or is taking too long, the PCM may shut down particular things that it deems an issue for the particular code it has. You will need to clear the code when you are done and see what happens

To remove tstat you will first want to take the front right tire off then the dust guard for it; the thermostat housing should now be visable. Then you will want to take the plastic windshield washer, and engine coolant reserviors off to make the job easier. Next take the bottom rad. Hose off the water pump(where it goes to, from the radiator). Then take the three nuts that hold the thermostat housing together. Once these are off you can unplug electrical plug on top of the housing, pull that part of the housing off and there the thermostat sits
