2002 Land Rover Freelander 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 55,000 miles

I was driving fine, no problems, when I was stopped in traffic. My car suddenly died. I tried to restart and it would the first couple times but then die immediately again. Then it would not start at all, when I turn the key just makes a clicking noise. The lights and radio however still work. Could the problem still be a bad battery? alternator?

I had to get it towed back home and had to leave out of town, so have not been able to try a jump or anything else yet.
