2003 Land Rover Discovery 3 cooling fan

We are replacing a cooling fan and do not know how to take it out

HI there,

This can be easy or a real pain to do, the fan is a L/H/thread, you need to remove at least on of the hub bolts this will give you enough access to get the spanner on to the hub nut, you will need to hold a screw driver across 2 of the remaining bolts to hold the hub while you give the spanner a good hit to undo the hub nut, be careful as if you break the flange behind the van hub pulley you will have to replace the entire engine cover as this is not serviceable, just a nasty trick by Land Rover on unsuspecting mechanics I feel. When you re fit it coat the thread a coat of anti seize copper spray and there is no need to try and do it up tight as the spinning action of the direction of rotation will tend to lock it up as well, just do it up firm.
