When I started my truck I smelt like gas I thought it was the cars next to me. As I drove on the freeway I heard ticking and I lost power. I limped it home and looked at the the engine and saw nothing. What could it be?
Thank you for your time.

Hi,

This sounds like a misfire. Is there a check engine light? If so, let's get the codes to try and confirm this.

If there are no codes, how does the engine idle? Is it rough or does it seem to idle ok? If there is a noise to the idle this again sounds like a misfire or possibly a worse engine issue.

Here is a guide that goes through some loss of power causes but again, I am not sure this is your issue just yet. Let me know about these questions and we can go from there. Thanks

Earlier in the day I gapped my spark plugs. My truck ran fine going to my granddaughter's soccer game.

Okay. I would pull the plugs out and inspect them. If you just gaped the plugs there were in the engine, I would go ahead and replace them rather than just inspecting them because you probably will not see anything. If this is all you did then clearly we need to recheck it at the least.
