2003 Kia Sorento not sure whats wrong?

I had the engine replaced about a year ago. I just bought a new battery about 2 weeks ago.

Everytime I go to start the car it has trouble, this started happening about a month ago, so I replaced the battery. The problem went away until last week when it didn't want to start. I kept trying and trying and after an hour it finially started after that it would start right up. Then again last night it wouldn't start. I attempted to jump it thinking it was the battery and now it won't even turn over. There is also a 'burnt plastic' smell now.

Any information will help

Now it won't even turn over, If you meant the engine don't crank over when you turn key to cranking position-If so could be one of the following the starter, starter relay, transmission position switch and ignition switch assuming the battery and connections are good.
