Muffled sound from engine

2003 Kia Sorento 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 64,000 miles
As of late I`ve been hearing a muffled sound coming from my engine. I especially notice it when the engine is in idle. Any idea what it could be ?

Can you describe the sound? Have you lost power? Has the check engine light come on?
