I just returned from a short drive (8 miles), and when I got out of my mini-van I noticed a steady stream of fluid coming from the rear of the car. The fluid is a very pale bright green, similar to coolant. It seems to be coming from an area above the rear axle of the van. I am completely ignorant in car repair so I don't know more detail than that. When I first stopped, the fluid was coming out in a steady stream, almost like a faucet turned on low. After about 5 minutes (and making a decent sized puddle) it slowed to a drip. Today was the first time I noticed this problem, although there is a wet spot in the driveway where the van was parked earlier, so it may have happened before as well. Any idea what this is? Is my car drivable, or should I have it towed to a service station?

Do you have rear heat / AC? Have you had to add coolant to the engine?

Hi,

I do have a rear heater, but have not had it on lately. I have not had to add engine coolant lately. The liquid is a very pale green, and is slightly oily. It has no discernable smell.

We were told about a month ago that our brake calipers were worn, but did not get new ones at that time due to lack of funding. Could this be a brake fluid leak? Can brake fluid be green?

Honestly, brake calipers stick when they are bad. Unless you have a rear brake sticking, don't worry about them. However, they can leak around the caliper piston, but brake fluid is mostly clear. It will not have any green to it.

I think you have a hose starting to leak going to the rear heater.

Did your engine gauges go to over heating? We had this on our 2004 and we had to have the lines that carry the antifreeze to the back heating unit replaced. To the tune of about $450.

I agree with him. It sounds like a hose going to the rear heater leaking. Have you had that checked yet?
