My 1995 jeep wrangler 2.5l drives great for the first 2 miles then begins to go into a short series of sputtering and you can smell the fuel being wasted, until the engine light comes on. When the engine light comes on its stop until the end of my trip and the car is turned off. My o2 sensor is giving codes saying too rich and too lean. I have replaced the fuel pressure regulator and that didnt solve the problem. Please advise. Thank you!

Hi there!
Sounds like it's running too rich......have you checked the coolant temp sensor?
It's job is to tell the computer when the engine has reached operating temperature. A warm engine requires less fuel to operate, so if that sensor is not working properly, you will have a rich mixture - which wastes alot of fuel.
The coolant temp sensor can be tested with an ohm meter, but as they are usually pretty inexpensive, you may decide to just replace it....it is located in or around your thermostat housing and has a 2 wire plug. A service manual, like a Haynes or Chiltons, will go into more detail about testing and replacement.
